Our inaugural fall season was a tremendous success on the girls' side and a modest one on the boys. Spring is the traditional AAU season. Last year it was a success on both sides. This year we will field teams from 8 yr olds-sophomores and all teams will train at our new complex.
NSSP Philosophies, Goals & Direction of our AAU Program
We are entering our fourth year of competing in AAU. We will have teams from age 9-15 for both boys and girls. Each year we have learned a lot and continually strive to improve. We are a little different in our approach to the AAU season than most other groups or teams.
We believe it is about making the player a “BETTER PLAYER”. Everything we do as a group is focused on that sole objective. If you are about your kid and all of his or her glory, NSSP is not for you.
Philosophy: Educate/Teach and Train the player.
Then put that player in game situations as often as possible to allow the player to demonstrate what they have been educated and trained to do. The biggest problem we encounter is parents confusing skill with athletic ability. Just because you are fast, big, jumper, strong etc. does not mean you are a basketball player. Many parents get confused over this. What we do is teach the fundamentals and IQ of the game. Over time this wins out over athletic ability. Best case scenario is athletic and fundamentally strong. This is a journey not a sprint. The best teams are not run and gun.
Goal: Make your child the best he or she can be.
Build a foundation that they can build upon. Have your child realize their achievements and improvements. Have that become a base for their self confidence. This is more than just basketball, it is about life and working hard, improving, succeeding, failing and knowing that to get something worthwhile it takes sweat and practice. It is about responsibility to team, to themselves, to their coach and parents. It is about not being scared. It is about putting themselves out there to succeed or fail based on what they have put in. It is about knowing where they stand when the game is over and feeling good or bad about it. It is about hard work in a very difficult sport.
We want your child to be much better than he or she is right now. We want them better than your neighbor in both skill and IQ. We want your child to understand that in order to get better they must put in hard work. The past three years tells us “We do it all the time”. We want basketball players not just athletes.
Direction:
We will train each player’s team in the same fashion as any High School team would train, regardless of age. We teach the same offenses, defenses, presses, fast breaks, schemes etc. to the 9’s as we do the 15’s. Expectations may be a little different but teaching the fundamentals and skill that allow the player to perform these moves is the same. This allows us to place players up or down on teams as needed. This is what makes us a little different. We use AAU to make our players better prepared for upcoming local seasons and school teams. After playing with us they will be prepared for whatever they see in rec. or school ball.
